In memoriam

I remember where I was on September 11, 2001, and I will never forget.

On the second-to-last day I was in New York - back in July 2001 - I took a trip down to Tribeca at night and stood there, under the towers. Back then in a magical summer where everything seemed right with the world and the biggest news was the disappearance of Chandra Levy - back then, who was to know everything would change?

That seems like so long ago, doesn't it?
And yet it doesn't seem long ago at all. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when it happened, and in some ways, it still feels surreal.

How random. I was in New York on holiday in July 2001 as well. Though the first time I was there was in 1998 for work. We filmed in WTC observation deck. It was a cloudy day and the view wasn't that great. I remember eating at a deli across the street from the towers. I remember the parking lot. In July 2001, we took to double decker bus tour and it went through the WTC. And then, Sept. 11, 2001. Everything changed. I remember the fear I felt when I was in bed that night (in Houston) and I heard a plane fly over. Of course it was a military plane doing it's job, but it freaked me out, because there were not supposed to be any planes flying at all. It's weird what you remember.
